Cinnaminson, New Jersey, United States Uncommon Schools Full time

Company Overview
Uncommon Schools is a nonprofit organization dedicated to delivering exceptional K-12 education in underserved communities. We take pride in our diverse workforce, with over 60% of our educators and staff identifying as people of color.

Currently, we operate 54 schools across five cities, serving more than 20,000 students. Our graduates are known to persist in and complete college at rates significantly higher than their peers nationally.

We achieve this through a robust academic curriculum, co-curricular activities, and social-emotional learning that equips students for success in higher education and beyond.

Position Overview
As an Uncommon Special Education Teacher, you will be dedicated to creating and implementing accommodations for students with diverse learning needs. You will advocate for these students, believing that tailored instruction and support services are essential for their academic success.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Instructional Duties
You will adapt and deliver an inclusive curriculum that values diversity. Collaborating with families and Special Education teams, you will develop 504 Plans and Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) to ensure appropriate modifications are in place. Your goal is to foster a safe and empowering environment where students can thrive as independent learners.
  2. Special Education Responsibilities
Working alongside general education teachers and school leaders, you will analyze student work and assessment trends to ensure compliance with IEPs. You will collect data on academic progress and set goals for annual IEP meetings. Instruction will include small group, one-on-one, and differentiated teaching strategies tailored to meet the needs of all learners.
  3. School Culture Contributions
You will cultivate positive relationships with students, ensuring they feel valued and understood. Engaging with families, you will help secure resources to support their children's educational journeys. Participation in professional development, mentorship, and collaborative team meetings will be essential to foster community and promote student achievement.

Qualifications
A strong commitment to the mission of Uncommon Schools and a dedication to anti-racist practices. Proven experience in supporting the social, emotional, and academic growth of students. A collaborative spirit and a proactive approach to learning and improvement are essential.

Required Experience:
A demonstrated interest in impacting K-12 students in urban settings (1-2 years preferred). Academic expertise in Special Education or related fields is necessary. A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required prior to employment.

While teacher certification is not mandatory for consideration in New Jersey, candidates must meet state certification eligibility requirements. All instructional staff are expected to obtain certification within a reasonable timeframe after starting their roles.

Additional Information
At Uncommon Schools, our staff is our greatest asset. We believe our compensation and benefits should reflect our core values of equity and transparency. Our educators receive top-tier training and support to operate mission-driven schools that provide high-quality education.

Compensation:
The starting salary for this position is between $55,000 and $71,000, influenced by relevant experience, education, and certifications.

Benefits:
Generous paid time off, comprehensive health insurance options, financial planning assistance, and support for professional development are among the benefits offered to our staff.

Uncommon Schools is committed to fostering a diverse and inclusive environment that empowers both students and staff. We are an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to creating a workplace free from discrimination and harassment.
