Job Summary

Responsibilities
  • Monitor and maintain equipment to ensure a safe and effective clinical environment.
  • Document and communicate patient status and any significant changes to the nurse.
  • Prepare and organize materials for dialysis treatments, recognizing the special needs of each patient.
  • Assist in room preparation and setup prior to dialysis treatment.
  • Check and maintain department equipment and supplies.
  • Operate dialysis machines and systems according to manufacturer specifications and organizational policies.
  • Maintain inventory and records related to dialysis unit quality assurance monitoring.
  • Demonstrate clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.
  • Collect patient data and monitor vital signs, weight, intake, and output before, during, and after treatments.
  • Measure, calculate, and adjust blood flow and fluid removal rates.
  • Obtain blood samples and culture specimens as ordered.
  • Disinfect dialysis supplies and sanitize equipment.
  • Respond to alarms and adjust treatment as needed.
  • Communicate emotional, medical, psychosocial, and nutritional concerns to the registered nurse.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certification or qualified to be certified as a dialysis patient care technician.
  • Two years of dialysis experience preferred.
  • Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) certification or equivalent within 18 months of hire.
