We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Per Diem Hemodialysis Tech to join our team at Yale New Haven Health. As a key member of our dialysis unit, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality patient care and ensuring the smooth operation of our department.
Responsibilities- Monitor and maintain equipment to ensure a safe and effective clinical environment.
- Document and communicate patient status and any significant changes to the nurse.
- Prepare and organize materials for dialysis treatments, recognizing the special needs of each patient.
- Assist in room preparation and setup prior to dialysis treatment.
- Check and maintain department equipment and supplies.
- Operate dialysis machines and systems according to manufacturer specifications and organizational policies.
- Maintain inventory and records related to dialysis unit quality assurance monitoring.
- Demonstrate clinical and technical skills according to established standards of practice.
- Collect patient data and monitor vital signs, weight, intake, and output before, during, and after treatments.
- Measure, calculate, and adjust blood flow and fluid removal rates.
- Obtain blood samples and culture specimens as ordered.
- Disinfect dialysis supplies and sanitize equipment.
- Respond to alarms and adjust treatment as needed.
- Communicate emotional, medical, psychosocial, and nutritional concerns to the registered nurse.
- Perform other duties as assigned to ensure smooth operation of the department.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification or qualified to be certified as a dialysis patient care technician.
- Two years of dialysis experience preferred.
- Nephrology Nursing Certification Commission (NNCC) certification or equivalent within 18 months of hire.
