The Maternal Mortality Case Worker/Informant Interviewer will be housed in the Division of Family Health and Wellness within the Tennessee Department of Health. The purpose of the informant interview is to gain insight into factors that the participant believes contributed to the maternal death, and the context around those factors in the decedent's life. The Case Worker will engage in rigorous investigations into maternal mortality cases in Tennessee. The core aim of these reviews is to identify and monitor patterns linked to maternal mortality, unearth systemic issues leading to these fatalities, and formulate impactful recommendations and modifications. This information will be crucial in helping to improve health outcomes for mothers across the state.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct informant interviews for Tennessee's MMR Program, following established standardized processes and guidelines.

• Collaborate with abstractors to determine key components related to the cause of death.

• Regularly consult with abstractors to discuss cases and determine if unique lines of questioning are needed to obtain key information.

• Conduct outreach with families and make contact attempts via mail or electronic means, such as email, phone calls, or text messaging.

• Summarize interviews, focusing on aspects relevant to the cause of death, and incorporate them into the final case narrative.

• Provide post-interview support to families, sharing resources tailored to their needs, such as grief/bereavement counseling, support groups, or financial assistance references.

• Attend quarterly Maternal Mortality Review Committee case review meetings to answer follow-up questions about case interviews.

• Willing to travel as needed for training, including attending the annual CDC conference in April.Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in social work, case management, psychology, or related human services field
