Position Summary

We are in search of a skilled, TS/SCI-cleared Geospatial Linguist at the Journeyman level to enhance our team. This role requires expertise in Spanish or Portuguese to analyze and integrate information related to feature data within the Geographic Names Database (GNDB), collaborating closely with experts in geographic names from the Intelligence Community (IC). The selected individual will apply agency guidelines and policies to address inquiries regarding the appropriate and accurate use of names, various Romanization systems, and the treatment of descriptive information on standard products. The role will involve utilizing the Geographic Names Processing Systems (GNPS), charts, imagery, and geospatial tools to refine names information for diverse products and respond to inquiries through the Ad Hoc Query process. Additionally, the candidate will prepare files and maps for operations, ensuring accurate data entry to maintain and update the GNDB, including batching completed work into the GNDB. The precision and dependability of the selected candidate's work are critical to the missions of our users.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Scan and geo-reference hardcopy maps, research, and procure geospatial data sources and commercial imagery for reference.
  • Conflate georeferenced maps and imagery with the GNDB while interpreting and applying national and international policies governing the treatment of geographic names as outlined by the US Board on Geographic Names (US BGN), the Department of State (DoS), NATO, and other relevant organizations.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree with 2 – 4 years of relevant experience or a Master's degree with less than 2 years of relevant experience.
  • ILR Skill Level Two certification for reading (DLPT5 2/2) in the required language and a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience.
  • Experience with ArcGIS or GeoMedia Pro; proficiency in creating shapefiles, geo-databases; utilizing native maps, secondary source maps, and historic maps for extraction and comparison; mapping imagery for stereo and mono extraction at various resolutions; and expertise in research and information gathering.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in processing geographic names following agency policies and procedures is highly desirable.
  • Ideal candidates should be self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to multitask and deliver high-quality products within specified timelines.
  • Team-oriented approach to work.

Security Clearance Requirement:

  • ACTIVE TS/SCI clearance, with a willingness to undergo a polygraph examination.

Compensation: Salary range starting at $60,000+, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
