As a vital member of the surgical team at LaPorte Hospital, you will engage in a diverse range of responsibilities that are essential for the successful execution of surgical procedures. Your role will encompass scrubbing for various surgical cases, including but not limited to general, orthopedic, and plastic surgeries. You will be instrumental in preparing for surgeries by selecting cases, ensuring the sterile field is maintained, and acting as the surgeon's second assistant when required. Additionally, you will assist in the cleaning and restocking of the surgical area as needed.


Qualifications

Education:
High School Diploma


Licensure:
  • CST Certification is required within 12 months of employment.
  • BLS Certification must be kept current throughout your tenure in this role.
Experience & Skills:
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in a peri-operative setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with surgical instruments and peri-operative equipment is advantageous.
  • Experience in an outpatient environment is preferred.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Prepare for upcoming surgical procedures by selecting cases and verifying that all necessary supplies, instruments, and equipment are ready.
  2. Demonstrate proper instrument setup, arranging tools and supplies on the mayo and back tables in accordance with best practices and surgeon preferences.
  3. Perform the duties of a scrub technician and surgical assistant in line with established guidelines.
  4. Conduct hand scrubs at the start of the day and for each surgical case thereafter.
  5. Utilize closed glove techniques while donning sterile attire.
  6. Execute surgical preparations as directed, adhering to aseptic principles.
  7. Prepare and transport clean and contaminated instruments and supplies for decontamination and re-sterilization.
  8. Exhibit a commitment to providing exceptional service, demonstrating kindness, compassion, and respect towards all patients and team members.
  9. Assist in maintaining the surgical suite, including preparation, turnover, and thorough cleaning, following recommended practices.
  10. Support inventory management and restocking of surgical supplies.
  11. Maintain a professional appearance and take pride in the cleanliness of the facility.
  12. Foster a collaborative environment, recognizing the importance of teamwork in serving patients and the community.
  13. Communicate effectively with patients and team members, ensuring clarity and understanding of needs.
  14. Provide timely updates to patients regarding their care and ensure their comfort while waiting.
  15. Safeguard patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
  16. Promote a safe environment by adhering to safety protocols and regulations.
  17. Demonstrate ownership and accountability in your role, taking pride in your contributions to the team.
  18. Meet all regulatory requirements, including maintaining current certifications and completing mandatory training.
