About the Role

This is a unique opportunity to join Midway University as a full-time Head Coach for our Western equestrian program. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing the program's daily operations, including recruiting, coaching, and horse care. You will also work closely with our Farm Manager to maintain a healthy and thriving herd. Key Responsibilities

  • Recruit and manage a team of student-athletes to achieve competitive success and academic excellence.
  • Maintain a healthy and thriving herd, working closely with the Farm Manager to ensure the well-being of the horses.
  • Assist with daily farm operations, including barn chores and event planning.
  • Develop and implement game plans, strategies, and training programs for the team.
  • Coordinate travel arrangements for away contests and ensure the team's safety and well-being.
  • Support academic progress and enforce discipline and sportsmanship behavior among team members.
  • Hire, supervise, and evaluate assistant coaches and program volunteers.
  • Manage the program's budget, fundraising, and marketing efforts.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; master's preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • Familiarity with equestrian rules and regulations, including IHSA, AQHA, and YEDA.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Strong judgment and ability to respond to emergency situations.
  • Commitment to academic and life skills development of student-athletes.
  • Previous experience with recruiting and managing student-athletes and coaches.
