About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented PhD Research & Development Intern to join our team at 3M. As a Research & Development Intern, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects, collaborate with senior researchers, and contribute to the development of innovative products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with senior researchers on assigned product/technology development projects
  • Lead and direct assigned projects towards advanced technical solutions
  • Document detailed experimental records in 3M electronic laboratory notebooks
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate experimental results
  • Collaborate with other R&D functions across 3M to advance project goals
Requirements
  • Currently pursuing a doctoral (PhD) degree in science or engineering from an accredited institution
  • Additional qualifications include:
    • Currently pursuing a doctoral (PhD) degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, mechanical engineering, materials science, polymer science, biomolecular engineering, or related discipline from an accredited institution
    • Completed a minimum of one (1) year of graduate studies by the start of the internship
    • Minimum of two – five (2-5) years of practical laboratory experience in synthesis of polymers and small molecules, chemical/polymer processing, advanced analytical and materials characterization, vapor coating, nanotechnology, development of sensors, and optical materials
