Child Life Specialist

Virtua Health is seeking a skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our healthcare team, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional care to pediatric patients and their families.

Job Summary

The Child Life Specialist will be responsible for implementing and administering a program designed to promote the social, emotional, intellectual, and physical growth of children in the hospital setting. This will involve providing therapeutic, educational, and recreational activities for pediatric patients and their families, as well as orienting hospital staff to the psychosocial needs of children and their families.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement therapeutic, educational, and recreational activities for children in the hospital, tailored to each child's age and level of understanding.
  • Participate in the assessment of patients in terms of language development, motor function, understanding of disease, and emotional feeling regarding hospitalization.
  • Assist children and parents in adjusting to the hospital environment and maintaining a healthy attitude towards illness.
  • Collaborate with medical and nursing staff to provide pre-operative, pre-procedure, and pretreatment support.
  • Represent the hospital at local and national associations related to the Child Life Program.
  • Maintain and recommend the purchase of necessary developmental and recreational equipment and supplies.
  • Prepare reports on program activities and participate in the development of policies and procedures pertinent to the Child Life Program.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a Bachelor's degree in Child Development, Education, or a closely related field. A Master's degree is preferred. You must also be eligible for professional Child Life Specialist Certification.
