Payroll Accountant

Job Summary

This is a professional accounting position with work of a complex nature. The successful candidate will perform tasks in accordance with rules, regulations, and policies, as set forth in accordance with industry standards, payroll accounting procedures and federal and state laws. Supervision is received from the payroll supervisor.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assists in the preparation and balancing of bi-weekly, monthly, faculty and student payrolls.
  • Assists students and employees with payroll related questions.
  • Batches and processes payroll source documents.
  • Balances and corrects payroll edit reports.
  • Processes new employee hiring forms to setup payroll deductions.
  • Performs file maintenance.
  • Assists in the compiling and computing statistical and other payroll data.
  • Assists in the preparation of payroll summaries, control figures, tax reports and other various reports.
  • Verifies time and effort report with payroll records.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or related area.
  • One (1) year of professional level experience in accounting, payroll or related business field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Excel functions and formulas.
  • Experience using Banner Finance.
  • Experience using Banner Human Resources for Payroll.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of payroll accounting procedures.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Considerable knowledge of documentation standards.
  • Moderate knowledge of computer based payroll accounting systems.
  • Basic knowledge of personnel policies and procedures.
  • Basic knowledge of federal and state payroll tax regulations.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of benefits package.
  • Strong technical skills.
