Job Summary

The Town of Needham is seeking a reliable and responsible individual to join our Aging Services Division as a Van Driver. This part-time position involves safely transporting senior citizens to various destinations, including the Center at the Heights and local shopping areas.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide safe and dependable transportation to senior citizens in and around Needham
  • Assist senior citizens with access to/from the lift-equipped van used in transportation activities
  • Load groceries and other packages into and out of the van during grocery/other shopping trips
  • Complete daily safety checklist to ensure vehicle is in safe working order; maintain vehicle trip/mileage logs
  • Perform preventative maintenance checks; reporting unusual vehicles noises/vibrations, tire wear, leaks or other indicators that the vehicle may require service maintenance
  • Ensure and maintain cleanliness inside and outside of the vehicle
Requirements
  • Possess a valid Massachusetts Drivers' License with a clean driving record
  • Communicate effectively and interact tactfully with the elder population and the general public
  • Be reliable and dependable with the ability to support and assist customers and staff
  • Have achieved at least a High School diploma or G.E.D.
  • Have the ability to lift/carry bundles weighing up to 20 pounds and to support a degree of leaning weight as passenger assistance is required
Preferred Requirements
  • Familiarity with relevant technology and devices such as smartphones, including texting, GPS, and use of standard office technology, including computers and email processes
  • Knowledge of Needham roads and neighborhoods
