Job Summary

Penn State Health is seeking a highly skilled Insurance Authorization Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our pharmacy team, you will be responsible for researching, obtaining authorizations, and verifying insurance information to ensure timely and cost-effective initiation of specialty medications.

Key Responsibilities
  • Research and obtain authorizations for specialty medications
  • Verify insurance information and coverage
  • Communicate with patients, providers, and payers to resolve authorization issues
  • Train new hires on authorization processes and procedures
  • Multitask in a high-volume phone call environment
Requirements
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • Two years of experience in prior authorizations in a pharmacy or clinical setting required
  • Ability to understand lab and clinical data within the patient's EMR
  • Ability to understand third-party payer and insurance complexities
  • Ability to communicate professionally with patients, peers, and providers
Preferred Qualifications
  • Pharmacy technician or pharmacy billing experience with insurers and third-party payers preferred
