Job Title: Electro-Optical Systems Engineer

We are seeking an experienced Electro-Optical Systems Engineer to join our Sensors Signals and Software Department at the Applied Research Laboratory Electro-Optics and Electronics division located in Freeport, PA.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, and testing complex electro-optical systems, including imaging and other electro-optical system development programs. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in electrical/electronic design, modeling, and analysis, as well as experience with power conditioning, electro-mechanical designs, thermal management, sensor interfacing, motion control, interfaces, and processing hardware.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop complex electrical/electronic systems from concept through deployment
  • Perform modeling and analysis to validate performance of analog and digital designs
  • Collaborate with other team members on power conditioning, electro-mechanical designs, thermal management, sensor interfacing, motion control, interfaces, and processing hardware
  • Support troubleshooting and integration of complete systems
  • Support field-testing of imaging systems
  • Contribute to proposals, reports, and presentations
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
  • Five years of related experience
  • Strong background in electrical/electronic design, modeling, and analysis
  • Experience with power conditioning, electro-mechanical designs, thermal management, sensor interfacing, motion control, interfaces, and processing hardware
  • Ability to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's degree in an Engineering or Science discipline
  • Experience with design, analysis, and test of complete imaging systems
  • Knowledge of various focal plane arrays types, imaging sensors, camera specifications, and video interfaces
  • Experience with real-time image processing
  • Experience with radiometry (analysis and laboratory measurements), development of link budgets, prediction of sensor response, and image quality metrics
