Job Summary

This position is responsible for overseeing the coordination and execution of geotechnical project testing services in the Geotechnical department. The Senior Engineer will apply engineering principles and practices to specific problems, directing project teams on multi-disciplinary projects while training and mentoring team members. Key responsibilities include geotechnical evaluations, design applications, and field data collection and analysis. The successful candidate will also act as a liaison with clients to ensure that their expectations are met.

Essential Functions
  • Manage complex projects and direct project teams, ensuring timely completion and client satisfaction.
  • Perform engineering observations and judgments of geostructural activities, including high-risk projects.
  • Prepare formal geotechnical engineering reports, including recommendations and findings.
  • Coordinate and assign staff to perform field testing and data collection.
  • Critically review, edit, and sign technical reports and correspondence of other staff members.
  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to meet departmental and company goals.
  • Represent AET by presenting ideas, solutions, and innovative advancements to clients, peer groups, and regulatory agencies.
  • Anticipate, recognize, and manage risk and liability while working on projects.
  • Maintain AET's productivity standards and provide quality service and work product.
  • Develop and maintain business contacts and relationships.
  • Stay up-to-date with applicable regulations, policies, procedures, and technologies in the geotechnical field.
Supervisory Responsibility

Provides work direction to field engineers, technicians, and drillers.

Qualifications and Education Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in civil or geological engineering with 10+ years of related experience, or an advanced degree in civil or geological engineering with 8+ years of experience.
  • Professional engineering registration in Minnesota, with the ability to obtain registration in other states as required.
  • Strong geotechnical analysis and design skills, as well as excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work in a project team environment, with a willingness to take initiative and adapt to changing circumstances.
  • Proven project management experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, with the ability to communicate complex ideas effectively.
Preferred Skills
  • Master's or PhD degree in geotechnical engineering.
  • Experience working in consulting engineering, with a strong track record of client relationships and service.
Work Environment

This role operates in a professional work environment, with occasional work in locations featuring rough terrain and industrial facilities. The successful candidate must be able to work in a fast-paced environment, with the ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds and work in areas with limited accessibility.

Physical Demands

The physical demands of this role include regular talking and hearing, frequent standing, walking, and use of hands and fingers. The employee must also be able to lift and move up to 25 pounds, with occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.

  • Acceptable driving record and legal authorization to work in the United States without sponsorship.
