Position Overview
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Western Digital is in search of a Senior Manager for Global Trade Operations. This crucial role is designed to generate business value through effective compliance practices. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of expertise in Import and Export operations and compliance, coupled with strong business facilitation, data analytics, and team leadership skills.
This global position involves overseeing a team of regional trade specialists, guiding them in supporting various business units and functions in fulfilling their trade compliance responsibilities concerning export regulations and customs compliance. The goal is to create business value through proactive engagement, regulatory oversight, and the development of initiatives that enhance market access, mitigate risks, and drive cost efficiency.
As a vital member of the Global Logistics/Global Trade Operations team, you will report directly to the Senior Director of Transportation and Trade Operations.
We seek a highly motivated, self-driven individual who can embrace the corporate vision and execute the organization's strategic objectives.
Responsibilities Include:
- Possessing extensive knowledge of international import/export operations and adeptly resolving any issues that may arise in international trade and logistics.
- Providing customs and trade operations support in both domestic and international locations.
- Formulating strategies and actionable plans to ensure compliant and efficient international movement of products and services through collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
- Consulting with internal stakeholders to guide them in managing their compliance obligations.
- Engaging with freight forwarders, government officials, customs brokers, and customers regarding import and export regulations.
- Managing and executing operational tasks while addressing problems as they occur.
- Designing a global customs brokerage and logistics partner program to support trade operations.
- Monitoring Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive continuous process improvement.
- Evaluating new government and trade compliance requirements to ensure that standard operating procedures are updated accordingly.
- Collaborating with the legal team to understand regulatory changes affecting the business and engaging internal functions to develop and implement defined procedures.
- Serving as a functional expert in Global Trade matters for the region, utilizing knowledge of customs regulations and governmental agencies to promote compliant market access for efficient goods flow across borders.
- Driving improvements in cost, lead time, and process efficiency through data analytics and robust data management.
- Creating communication and training plans to ensure alignment on trade compliance governance processes among all partners.
- Collaborating with leadership, product teams, and external partners to establish and enforce regional trade compliance.
- Building and maintaining metrics to monitor actionable insights that enhance the trade compliance experience for customers and partners.
- Monitoring proposed changes in import and export control laws and assessing their impact on the company's operations.
- Managing daily tasks related to providing trade compliance governance guidance and coordinating team deliverables.
- Assisting with technology and product classification, including Harmonized Commodity Codes (HTS, Schedule B, ECCN) specific to country requirements.
- Proactively identifying and driving automation, accuracy, and process improvement initiatives.
- In-depth technical knowledge of global customs, import/export topics, including incoterms, valuation, classification, country of origin, free-trade agreements, export controls, licensing, and sanctions.
- Approximately 10 or more years of relevant experience in the industry, professional services, or with a major importer/exporter.
- Staying informed on global trade developments to identify savings opportunities and compliance enhancements.
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills, with a strong motivation to succeed and build relationships.
- Flexibility to collaborate with colleagues globally; foreign language skills are a plus.
- Experience with U.S. Customs and Border Protection and similar organizations in other countries.
- Proven experience in managing and supervising teams.
- Strong analytical and communication skills.
- Able to successfully manage multiple projects from inception to completion.
- Bachelor's/Master's degree and a U.S. Customs broker license.
- Familiarity with Global Trade Management systems is advantageous.
- Proven track record as a Trusted Partner demonstrating authenticity, empathy, integrity, accountability, and professional ethics.

- Proficiency with Oracle's Global Trade Management Systems is beneficial.
