The Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional System Developer and Fundraising Strategist to drive our efforts in securing significant, multi-year support from institutional funders. This role will oversee all aspects of fundraising and communications, focusing on crafting compelling grant proposals and other written materials that effectively convey Foster America's unique approach to systems change.

This hire will build upon initial support from esteemed partners like the Annie E. Casey Foundation and Kellogg Foundation, cultivating relationships with a diverse range of national and regional funders. Reporting directly to the Executive Director and joining a passionate 10-member team committed to social justice and racial equity, this individual will have the opportunity to shape and amplify innovations transforming child welfare outcomes nationwide.

Key Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Executive Director and leadership team, design and implement a bold fundraising strategy to raise $5M+ annually, increase engagement of current supporters, and generate new relationships with institutional and individual funders.
  • Initiate and cultivate relationships with funder prospects capable of making 5 and 6-figure gifts, conducting research and developing strategies to pursue new prospects.
  • Partner with the Executive Director, Chief Program Officer, board of directors, program staff, and fellows to cultivate donors and create funding opportunities tailored to programmatic priorities and various funder interests, such as systems change, child welfare reform, government innovation, social justice, and racial equity.
  • Lead the development of proposals, letters of intent, briefing materials for meetings, funder presentations, stewardship communications, and other materials, tightly managing a grants calendar to ensure timely submissions.
  • Develop templates for use in development and communications materials, leveraging data, impact stories, and knowledge of the child welfare landscape in communications with funders and other audiences.
  • Create and strengthen processes and systems for gift processing, donor prospecting, cultivation, acknowledgment, and stewardship, developing and managing systems for donors and prospects in Salesforce.
  • Serve as functional lead for communications, including speech writing, thought leadership writing, website content, newsletters, and other materials, being strategic about building Foster America's brand and increasing awareness.
  • Manage external grant writers and communications consultants as needed.

Location and Benefits
