Position Overview:

The Senior Turbomachinery Technician plays a crucial role in the assembly and testing of custom, low-volume products across various sectors, including defense and aerospace. This position involves comprehensive oversight of product development, from component assembly and testing to final assembly and support. The technician will collaborate closely with engineers to enhance designs and processes while ensuring the delivery of mission-critical hardware.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that product assembly and testing adhere to specifications and quality standards.
  • Engage with cryogenic pumps, single-ended pumps, fans, and Welco products.
  • Conduct basic balancing, hydrostatic pressure tests, and interference fits.
  • Interpret and analyze Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID).
  • Review work routers and gather necessary tools, materials, and documentation.
  • Follow work instructions and drawings to set up workstations effectively.
  • Assess parts for cleanliness and perform cleaning as needed.
  • Inspect components for nonconformities and generate Primary Material Review (PMR) reports for resolution.
  • Assemble parts according to testing requirements.
  • Construct test loops in compliance with documentation to meet specifications.
  • Certify test loops in collaboration with engineering and lead technicians to ensure proper integration and quality maintenance.
  • Assist in product testing following established procedures.
  • Document test results and identify any failure modes.
  • Collaborate with mentors to troubleshoot test failures by verifying setups and equipment settings.
  • Implement modifications and conduct retests as per the test plan.
  • Package products to maintain quality and facilitate the next steps in the process.
  • Complete routers and weekly timesheets accurately.
  • Ensure that inspection gauges are calibrated and report any overdue items.
  • Perform balancing, hydrostatic tests, and gauge calibrations as required.
  • Work collaboratively with all departments to ensure effective data transfer and meet customer needs.
  • Identify and report safety, quality, and delivery issues during daily status meetings.

Collaborate with Assembly & Test Engineers to recommend changes in work instructions and drawings for future revisions.

  • Prioritize employee safety and product quality throughout all processes.
  • Familiarize with Quality Management System (QMS) procedures and stay updated on changes.
  • Participate in root cause analysis to address safety and quality concerns.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and utilize appropriate protective equipment.
  • Continuously seek improvements in procedures and processes to achieve zero defects.
  • Identify opportunities for enhancement in safety, quality, delivery, and cost, and communicate them to management.
  • Engage in continuous improvement initiatives to drive departmental enhancements.
  • Maintain 5S practices within the department to boost efficiency.
  • Carry out preventive maintenance tasks as assigned to ensure equipment reliability.

Qualifications:

To be considered for this role, candidates must possess the following:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent educational certification.

Experience:

  • A minimum of ten years of electro-mechanical technical experience in manufacturing, engineering, or R&D environments.
  • Exposure to facilities and equipment maintenance.

Additional Requirements:

  • Willingness to work overtime as needed.
  • Occasional travel may be required, up to 5% of working time.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two-year technical degree in engineering technology, electronics, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience with high/low voltage systems, electronics, plumbing, PLCs, HVAC, instrumentation, hydraulics, and pneumatics.

Compensation: The hourly pay range for this position is $32/hr. - $40/hr., reflecting a good faith estimate based on qualifications and experience.
