Job Title: Physical Therapy Assistant

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled Physical Therapy Assistant to join our team at the Detroit Medical Center. As a Physical Therapy Assistant, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and contributing to the success of our rehabilitation services.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide direct patient care under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, using standard physical therapy procedures.
  • Instruct patients and family members on therapeutic exercises, transfers, and gait training.
  • Assist Physical Therapist in patient evaluation and assess functional skills of patients.
  • Perform prosthetic training, administer modality treatments, and measure and recommend equipment such as wheelchairs, orthoses, and assistive devices.
  • Participate in chart rounds, admission and discharge conferences, family conferences, and team development conferences.
  • Maintain accurate records of patient progress and treatment plans.
  • Collaborate with Physical Therapist to ensure all patient documentation is reviewed and co-signed.
  • Attend and contribute to organizational and program development team and departmental meetings.
  • Supervise, instruct, and evaluate students and volunteers.

Requirements:

  • Associate's degree in Physical Therapy with coursework in anatomy, biology, physiology, and psychology.
  • One year of experience in a clinical setting preferred.
  • Current license to practice as a PTA in the state of Michigan.

Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic knowledge and skill in common physical therapy practices and procedures.
  • Visual acuity to observe patient response to treatment.
  • Manual dexterity to operate equipment.
  • Sensory ability to distinguish hot and cold during patient treatments.
