Job Title: Clinical Support Technician

Join our team at St. Charles Health System as a Clinical Support Technician, where you will play a vital role in providing exceptional patient care and support in our Perioperative Services department.

Job Summary:

The Clinical Support Technician is responsible for providing perioperative support for all endoscopic and anesthesia needs, while maintaining oversight of anesthesia and endoscopy inventory and supply requisitioning. This role requires strong communication and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintain all anesthesia machines, standardized carts, and cardiac monitors in the perioperative department and the family birthing center operating room.
  • Serve as the point of contact/support for anesthesia provider equipment/supply issues.
  • Respond with supplies/equipment during emergency situations.
  • Maintain knowledge of all anesthesia equipment and ability to troubleshoot equipment and initiate repairs as necessary.
  • Provide coordination of equipment evaluation and purchase of new equipment.
  • Coordinate the anesthesia quality program for the operating room.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive procedure manual.
  • Maintain and adequate supply of inventory, process and maintain instruments, scopes, and equipment.
  • Ensure PAR (pre-determined amount required) levels are appropriate and rotate stock to prevent spoilage.
  • Inspect and functionally operate all endoscopy equipment, electric power instruments, and audiovisual equipment to insure optimum safety and performance.
  • Assist the ordering physician and circulating nurse during endoscopy-related procedures.
  • Orient and mentor new physicians and caregivers as appropriate.
  • Follow standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
  • Assist anesthesia providers as needed.
  • Set up and operate the auto-transfusion blood and fluid replacement system and set up arterial lines.
  • Maintain communication with other departments who require anesthesia assistance.
  • Supports the vision, mission, and values of the organization in all respects.

  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.

  • Provides a therapeutic presence in service to others by purposefully responding to the needs of patients in a caring way, including introducing oneself and explaining role in patient's care, asking the patient his or her preferred name, sitting with the patient to determine his or her care goals, active listening, and communicating effectively and appropriately through touch, eye contact, etc.
  • Provides and maintains a safe environment for caregivers, patients, and guests.
  • Documents all patient care with proficiency in compliance with hospital policies, procedures, and regulatory agencies.
  • May perform additional duties of similar complexity within the organization, as required or assigned.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or general education diploma (GED).
  • AHA Basic Life Support for Healthcare Provider certification.
  • One year experience in a full-service operating room with exposure to anesthesia/operating room equipment.
  • One year anesthesia technician experience.
Physical Requirements:

Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.

Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, keyboard operation, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.

Frequently (50%): Sitting, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-25 pounds. The use and operation of a motor vehicle for Home Health and Wound Caregivers.

Occasionally (25%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, grasping/squeezing, ability to hear whispered speech level.

Rarely (10%): Climbing stairs.

Never (0%): Climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), operation of a motor vehicle.

Exposure to Elemental Factors:
