Job Description:

  • Assist the healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care
  • Check supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures
  • Assist with room setup and sterile supply opening
  • Set up sterile tables with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medications/solutions in an aseptically prioritized and timely manner
  • Perform surgical counts with the circulator
  • Actively participate in the procedure pause/timeout
  • Scrub, gown, and glove both self and others; assist in draping the sterile field
  • Pass instruments to the surgeon and maintain an organized back table and operative field
  • Maintain the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures
  • Prepare sterile dressings and actively participate in post-procedure pause
  • Clean and prepare instruments for sterilization
  • Apply principles of asepsis to ensure the prevention of infection and patient/employee safety
  • Prepare case carts according to procedure and preference cards
  • Observe patient conditions and report changes to the physician and Registered Nurse
  • Plan proactively for procedure progression and adjust during emergencies
  • Prepare OR and other areas (if needed) for receiving patients
  • Maintain financial stewardship by efficiently managing supplies and equipment
  • Provide relationship-based patient-centered care under the supervision of the registered nurse
  • Partner with patients during procedures and shift changes
  • Uphold all health care system policies, procedures, and clinical competencies, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards
  • Serve as a patient advocate
  • Assist other team members with cleaning and room preparation between cases
  • Transport patients and provide appropriate comfort and safety measures
  • Participate in performance improvement initiatives
  • Complete all initial and annual competencies, mandatory education, populations-specific education, and continuing education requirements
  • Provide a learning environment for students and new hires
  • Participate in any new training related to new policies, processes, or equipment
  • Serve as a resource for new technology or procedures
  • Maintain and stock medical supplies
  • Complete all required tasks and responsibilities
