Role Overview
The Staff Quality Engineer will play a pivotal role in bridging Product Development, Engineering, and Operations to facilitate the introduction of new vehicles. This position involves collaboration with Design, Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations, Production Control, and Manufacturing & Process Engineering teams, ensuring that all quality functions are primed to deliver exceptional vehicles to our clientele. You will be tasked with formulating strategic plans to enhance business quality processes, establishing quality standards, and developing testing systems that reflect efficiency, reliability, and performance at the vehicle platform level. Additionally, you will create documentation that addresses launch-related concerns and propose solutions to resolve these issues.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure preparedness for development builds and successful product launches across various vehicle platforms.
- Lead and participate in cross-functional Program and Manufacturing Readiness meetings, providing clear updates on status and recovery plans at both operational and executive levels.
- Deliver project status reports, summaries, and issue resolution tracking.
- Organize and coordinate pre-launch build activities effectively.
- Facilitate ramp management with operations teams, identifying necessary activities and coordinating execution and risk mitigation according to New Model Operational Plans.
- Support the operations readiness workstream, ensuring objectives are met and recovery plans are developed as necessary.
- Enhance product and process quality by defining and implementing recommendations for improvement.
- Establish detailed guidelines on Quality standards and Build KPIs.
- Identify root causes of technical issues and recommend effective solutions.
- Monitor and address systematic problems through the operations system.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- 6+ years of quality experience in a production or engineering setting.
- 3+ years of experience in transitioning products from prototype to series production.
- Comprehensive understanding of complex production line operations, including production control, material handling, supply chain, quality, and production teams.
- Familiarity with the manufacturing validation process related to complex new products across various engineering teams and manufacturing facilities.
- High proficiency in AIAG Core Tools and familiarity with significant CQI publications and standards.
- Demonstrated project management capabilities.
- Hands-on experience with Quality Management Systems (QMS) and testing methodologies.
- In-depth knowledge of technical documentation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in methods such as 8D.
- Proficient in MS Office, Minitab, and other relevant software.
- Willingness to travel at least 20%, with potential for increased travel over time.
- Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
