Job Summary

Summit Design and Engineering Services is seeking highly skilled Transportation Construction Inspectors to join our Construction Engineering Inspection team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of highway construction projects in the Andrews area and throughout North Carolina.

Responsibilities
  • Conduct inspections of roadways and structures construction operations, performing calculations and computations as needed.
  • Perform materials sampling and testing to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Collect materials weigh tickets and conduct roadway tests to verify material quality and placement.
  • Monitor and perform inspections on complex and routine highway projects.
  • Maintain daily records of project activities and prepare monthly project estimates.
  • Take field measurements and calculate contract pay quantities for completed work items.
  • Read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
Requirements
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry, and trigonometry.
  • Proficient in using iPad, Microsoft Office, Outlook, Dropbox, and/or OneDrive.
  • Ability to work independently, use judgment, and make decisions.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to perform required testing and maintain detailed reports.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, bridge, and structure plans and contract specifications.
  • Must be able to walk over rough terrain, stand for up to 12 hours, and perform physical tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NCDOT Concrete certification.
  • NCDOT QMS Roadway certification.
  • NCDOT Conventional Density certification.
  • NCDOT ABC Sampling certification.
  • NCDOT Borrow Pit Sampling certification.
  • NCDOT Level II Erosion & Sediment Control certification.
