Job Overview

West Virginia Paving, a CRH company, is seeking a Quality Control Intern to join our team. As a Quality Control Intern, you will have the opportunity to work with a vertically integrated company and experience multiple aspects of customer specification requirements in construction management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Receive detailed understanding of the HMA production processes.
  • Learn Quality Control methods and reporting procedures.
  • Learn entire paving process and density control.
  • Work with QC Technicians to further understand smoothness determinations and IRI reporting.
  • Learn how to conduct and test equipment calibrations.
  • Work to understand aggregate processing and quality conformance.
  • Assist with testing materials in a safe, efficient, and productive manner.
  • Identify and become familiar with various mix specifications requirements.
  • Test materials to determine specific requirements such as weight, gravity, temperature, thickness, and gradation of mix components.
  • Communicate with other technicians regarding mix specifications and test results.
  • Input test result data into computers in laboratories and remote locations.
  • Communicate and assist paving personnel in adjusting processes to conform to specifications.
  • Report and communicate test results ethically, adhering to the companies Ethics Policy.
Requirements
  • Must be enrolled in an accredited college or university and working towards an Associate or Bachelor's degree in, for example, Mining Engineering, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or other construction industry related degree/program.
  • Ability to read English language sufficiently to read information contained in specifications, reports, manuals and regulations.
  • Ability to perform intermediate mathematical skills, including basic algebra, geometry, and shop math.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
