Currently, Meridian Health Services is looking for a PRN Psychiatric Technician for our Inpatient Psychiatric Program. This Psychiatric Technician role operates during the night shift from 7p-7a, offering a unique opportunity to positively influence the lives of individuals in need.
Key Responsibilities of the Psychiatric Technician:
- Attend to clients' personal needs on the Units (including phone calls, clothing, laundry, exercise, etc.)
- Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs).
- Encourage and engage clients in treatment, social, leisure, and recreational activities.
- Utilize therapeutic skills in interactions with clients, families, and visitors.
- Keep clients informed about their treatment plan objectives and progress.
- Establish therapeutic guidelines with clients exhibiting challenging behaviors.
- Demonstrate proficiency in taking vital signs, obtaining urine specimens, and assisting with nursing tasks under the direction of the Unit Nurse.
- Report accurate observations to the Unit Nurse regarding client behaviors, reactions to treatment, and any concerning symptoms.
- Function within the parameters outlined by nursing care plans and multidisciplinary treatment strategies, considering cultural and age-specific needs.
- Serve as a role model to promote the development of appropriate social skills.
- Communicate respectfully and clearly with all hospital staff, clients, and visitors.
- Maintain thorough and therapeutic written communications, including charting and reports.
- Ensure the cleanliness and order of Unit supplies and routines as per hospital policies.
- Complete admission and discharge responsibilities accurately and thoroughly.
- Inform supervisors and treatment team members of any concerns regarding client welfare.
- Demonstrate awareness of safety and security protocols.
- Conduct Unit/Room searches and recognize the importance of interventions.
- Notify appropriate personnel of potential hazards to clients, staff, and visitors.
- Take appropriate actions to intervene in client risk behaviors, utilizing approved skills.
- Document detailed observations, behaviors, and interventions for assigned patients.
- Maintain competency in electronic health record documentation.
- Adhere to Universal Precautions and infection control protocols.
- Participate in emergency codes as per training and experience.
- Maintain required certifications for the position.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions.
- Exhibit punctuality and attendance in accordance with hospital guidelines.
- Assist with Activity Therapy sessions on the Units.
- Uphold confidentiality standards.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- Graduation from an accredited high school or equivalent.
- At least 18 years of age upon completion of orientation.
