POSITION SUMMARY


The role of the Family Support Specialist is to aid the Corps Officer(s) in delivering case management and housing search support to families at the Booth Family Center. This position is crucial in ensuring families can access community resources, find suitable housing, and sustain permanent residency once placed.

Responsibilities include conducting basic screenings, intakes, and adhering to case management protocols.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Engage in the daily operations of the transitional family shelter, fostering a safe, supportive, and substance-free environment.

Collaborate with social service professionals, counselors, CalWORKs, and various community partners to guarantee families receive holistic support services.


Establish and nurture relationships with external organizations, faith-based groups, and volunteers to broaden the array of services available to shelter residents.

Maintain accurate documentation of client participation in programs and ensure precise data entry of client information (Intakes, Needs, Services, etc.).

Work collaboratively with families to identify and resolve barriers to housing.

Advocate for the needs and rights of transitioning families within the larger community.

Assist program participants in utilizing both traditional and digital resources to access available support.

This includes facilitating recovery meetings and educational opportunities, such as anger management, parenting, budgeting workshops, and 12-Step programs, to equip families with essential skills for success after program completion.

Uphold strict confidentiality standards.

Provide transportation or assistance to clients for important appointments.

Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

Associate's degree in social work, counseling, or a related discipline is required.

Prior experience in social services or human services is preferred.

Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.


Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to effectively speak, read, comprehend, write, and communicate in English in a professional manner.

Must be committed to maintaining confidentiality in accordance with The Salvation Army and industry standards.

Ability to build rapport and communicate effectively with colleagues and the public.

Must be capable of relating to individuals in crisis and thrive in a team-oriented environment.

Personal experience related to recovery, resilience, or similar life challenges is highly valued; active involvement in The Salvation Army's Adult Rehabilitation Programs, Narcotics Anonymous, or Alcoholics Anonymous is ideal.

Must possess the ability to empathize, communicate, and work with diverse populations.

Exceptional organizational, prioritization, planning, and problem-solving skills.

Flexibility to perform additional related tasks as they arise.

Must be at least 21 years old.


Possess a valid Class C California Driver's License, pass The Salvation Army's required driver testing, and maintain a clean driving record.

Ability to endorse and promote The Salvation Army's mission.

Must successfully pass a comprehensive background check.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.

Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information.

Ability to operate basic office equipment and tools: PC, Telephone, Copier, etc.
