Job Summary

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist: Amb Hem/Onc position at The Ohio State University is responsible for coordinating all aspects of patients' pharmaceutical needs in patient care areas. This includes medication order approval and distribution, assurance of appropriate dose, route, frequency, and duration of therapy, patient medication profile review for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions, and appropriate regimens. The specialist will also coordinate patients' pharmaceutical needs with physicians and nurses, and supervise Pharm.D. students, technicians, undergraduate, and graduate student teaching, and provide educational programs for hospital staff.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate patients' pharmaceutical needs in patient care areas
  • Approve and distribute medication orders
  • Assure appropriate dose, route, frequency, and duration of therapy
  • Review patient medication profiles for drug-drug interactions, duplication of therapy, drug allergy interactions, and appropriate regimens
  • Coordinate with physicians and nurses to ensure optimal patient care
  • Supervise Pharm.D. students, technicians, undergraduate, and graduate student teaching
  • Provide educational programs for hospital staff
Requirements

This position requires a strong knowledge of medication dosing and pharmaceutical needs relative to the disease process and age. The specialist must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. The position also requires excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively coordinate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
