Overview:

Role Summary:

The Retail Associate will report directly to the Ketchikan Family Store. The primary responsibility includes operating the point of sale system and ensuring customers are checked out efficiently and courteously. Additional duties involve maintaining a clean and organized store environment, performing basic janitorial tasks, and displaying promotional materials on designated days. The associate will also assist in processing donations. As a representative of the store, the individual will embody the values of The Salvation Army, fostering a safe and welcoming atmosphere for both customers and colleagues.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Maintain a clean and safe working environment.
  2. Communicate respectfully and effectively with customers, supervisors, and team members.
  3. Oversee volunteers in alignment with The Salvation Army's policies.
  4. Manage cash register operations, including accurate cash handling and record-keeping.
  5. Deliver exceptional customer service to all store visitors.
  6. Ensure racks and shelves are organized and tidy.
  7. Utilize various equipment and systems, including computers and point of sale systems.
  8. Answer phone inquiries as necessary.
  9. Assist with store clean-up and organization of sorting and warehouse areas.
  10. Participate in required training sessions, including child safety, CPR, and fleet safety.
  11. Adhere to dress code policies to maintain a professional appearance.
  12. Assist with loading and unloading items as needed.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned by the Store Manager or Corps Officers.

Working Conditions:

Ability to perform physical tasks such as walking, standing, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs. Proficiency in operating technology such as computers and telephones is required. Individuals must be capable of adhering to proper lifting techniques and maintaining safety protocols.

Minimum Qualifications:

At least 1 year of work experience in any field, preferably in retail or sales. Must be able to complete all assigned training and work independently while maintaining professionalism and courtesy.

Skills and Abilities:

Quick learning ability and capacity to manage multiple priorities. Flexibility and openness to new ideas are essential. Basic math skills are required, and proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is preferred but not mandatory.
