The Hand Therapist is tasked with the assessment and treatment of patients while adhering to licensure regulations. This role involves a collaborative approach to determine patient objectives, obstacles to discharge, and necessary ongoing therapy services. The Hand Therapist prioritizes patient-centered care and exercises independent judgment in developing and organizing the treatment plan.

Key Responsibilities:

Introduces patients, families, and relevant parties to the therapy evaluation and treatment process, providing necessary education and support tailored to their needs. Collects and accurately documents all essential patient information, including precautions, orders, and initial treatment plans. Chooses and implements evaluation and treatment techniques appropriate for the patient's age, diagnosis, symptoms, and physician directives, documenting in accordance with charting standards. Creates an initial treatment plan and completes required certifications. Coordinates treatment schedules with various disciplines using established scheduling protocols; collaborates with the interdisciplinary team to develop and document a discharge plan in inpatient settings. Records the patient's response to treatment and tracks progress. Recognizes significant changes in the patient's condition and takes appropriate actions, as evidenced by reporting, staffing consultations, and documentation. Conducts pain assessments and responds according to standard operating procedures. Performs additional duties as assigned to meet departmental and organizational needs.

Required Certifications:

Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) | North Dakota State Board of Occupational Therapy | Prior to Start Date | HR Primary Sources Certified Hand Therapist | Hand Therapy Certification Commission | Within 12 Months of Start Date | HR Primary Sources Valid Driver's License with Acceptable Driving Record | Current State Licensed | Prior to Start Date | HR Primary Sources Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification | American Heart Association | Within 90 Days of Start Date | Learning Management System

Certification as a Hand Therapist (CHT) and preferred education in physical agents and modalities (PAMS) required within one year of hire.
