Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Community Development Specialist to join our team at Planning & Development District III. As a key member of our staff, you will play a vital role in providing community and economic development services that drive project financing, support local and regional planning processes, and generate valuable information.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct research on development issues and provide technical assistance to local governments and special interest groups.
  • Monitor state and federal programs to determine their features, deadlines, application procedures, and administrative requirements.
  • Prepare reports and information materials on programs, issues, and activities.
  • Advise local governments on project funding packages, development factors, and action alternatives.
  • Prepare applications on behalf of District III or project sponsors to government programs, foundations, or other assistance sources.
  • Provide project administrative assistance to member entities and other project sponsors.
  • Prepare and present reports to the District III Committee, local governments, and other groups involved with rural development issues.
  • Serve as liaison and/or point of contact between District III and program managers.
  • Represent projects and local officials in development discussions with funding and/or regulatory entities.
  • Prepare and present comments on programs or regulatory issues.
  • Prepare comprehensive development and special purpose plans on behalf of local governments.
  • Support local governments in the development and implementation of land use policies and regulations.
  • Develop expertise and share program and project experience with other staff members.
Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have a strong understanding of community and economic development principles, excellent research and analytical skills, and the ability to communicate effectively with local governments and other stakeholders.
