Soliant is seeking a skilled and dedicated School Sign Language Interpreter to support a high school student who is deaf or hard of hearing. The Interpreter will facilitate communication between the student, teachers, and peers, ensuring that the student has equal access to educational opportunities and participates fully in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide sign language interpretation for a high school student during classroom instruction, extracurricular activities, and school events.
  • Facilitate communication between the student and teachers, staff, and peers, ensuring clear and accurate transmission of information.
  • Support the student in understanding and engaging with the curriculum, classroom discussions, and social interactions.
  • Collaborate with teachers and educational staff to adapt teaching strategies and materials to meet the student's needs.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP) and other accommodation plans.
  • Maintain confidentiality regarding the student's personal information and educational progress.
  • Participate in team meetings, including IEP meetings, and provide input on strategies to support the student's success.
  • Stay current with best practices in sign language interpretation and support services for deaf and hard-of-hearing students.
Qualifications:
  • Certification in American Sign Language (ASL) or a related sign language interpreting certification (e.g., RID, NIC).
  • Experience in providing sign language interpretation in educational settings is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of educational concepts and the ability to convey information effectively.
  • Excellent communication skills, both in sign language and spoken language.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with students, teachers, and other school staff.
  • Patience, empathy, and a commitment to fostering an inclusive learning environment.
