Job Summary

Johnson, Mirmiran & Thompson Inc. is seeking an Entry Level Field Technician to join our Underground Utilities, Land Surveying, and Mapping team in Pittsburgh. This position involves conducting field investigations, operating equipment to locate subsurface utilities, and interpreting roadway and utility plans.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct field investigations to identify subsurface utilities
  • Operate equipment such as digital pipe & cable instruments, vacuum excavation trucks, and ground penetrating radar
  • Label topographic features from field codes
  • Perform calculations and mark underground utilities
  • Operate vacuum excavation truck to expose underground utilities
  • Interpret roadway and utility plans, and utility record drawings
Requirements
  • Valid Driver's License with good driving record
  • Able to pass Security Background Checks
  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Able to work 7:00 am – 4:00 pm Monday – Friday (Minimum)
  • Travel required
  • Able to work outdoors in all weather conditions
  • Able to bend, kneel, lift and carry up to 75 lbs as needed
Preferred Qualifications
  • 0 to 4 years of related experience
  • Experience in the location of underground utilities preferred but not necessary
  • Experience using GPR is preferred but not necessary
  • Surveying experience preferred but not necessary
