Position Overview:
The Tissue Preparation Specialist is responsible for the precise and timely processing of tissue and bodily fluid samples. This role involves overseeing the receipt and preparation of specimens for both routine and complex microscopic analysis by Pathologists. Professional judgment is essential to ensure the integrity of procedures and materials. The Tissue Preparation Specialist operates with minimal oversight and provides assistance to Histotechnicians as required.

It is important to note that for the safety of our patients, families, and staff, the seasonal influenza vaccine is a requirement for all employees within our organization.New hires must be prepared to provide proof of vaccination for measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), chicken pox (varicella), and tetanus, diphtheria, acellular pertussis (Tdap) as applicable.
If selected for this role, you will be required to submit your immunization records as verification of vaccination.
Should you have any concerns regarding these vaccinations, medical and/or religious exemptions can be discussed with Human Resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform moderate to high complexity histological procedures in the laboratory with minimal supervision, adhering to established operating procedures and safety protocols.
Evaluate specimens to determine their acceptability for analysis.Initiate the development of new antibodies in the laboratory based on the needs identified by pathologists for patient care, collaborating closely with the IHC pathology director on antibody development and research.
Prepare solutions for various staining techniques and conduct antibody dilutions according to specified guidelines. Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies and reagents necessary for both routine and specialized procedures.Engage in continuous quality assurance activities and perform routine calibrations and adjustments of laboratory equipment as necessary. Assist in the review, revision, and creation of technical procedures in accordance with CLSI guidelines and DPLM document management standards.
Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree along with 1-2 years of relevant experience is required. Training in an accredited program is essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this position and may be considered as part of the experience.
Certification:
One of the following certifications is required upon hire: Certified Histotechnologist or Certified Histotechnician.

The starting pay for this role begins at $26.91/hr, with final offers determined based on education and experience.
Work Environment:
This position requires onsite work at one of our Children's Mercy locations and is not eligible for remote work.
