This position involves engaging in impactful legal work focused on climate change, clean energy, and the protection of natural resources, air, and water quality.

ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Associate Attorney will collaborate with senior legal professionals on significant litigation and innovative policy initiatives across various environmental programs. Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with a team of attorneys, scientists, and policy experts to develop legal strategies aimed at safeguarding the environment and promoting community well-being.
  • Participating in federal and state court litigation and administrative advocacy, which encompasses drafting legal documents, conducting research, and engaging in negotiations.
  • Integrating legislative advocacy with legal strategies to enhance environmental protections.
  • Building and maintaining relationships with clients, partners, and experts in the field.
  • Contributing to media outreach and communication efforts.
  • Assisting in the mentorship and supervision of law clerks and externs.

As the Associate Attorney gains experience, they will take on more complex cases under the guidance of senior attorneys, enhancing their professional development.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Juris Doctor degree with 0-4 years of legal experience and eligibility for bar admission in relevant jurisdictions.
  • Strong academic credentials and exceptional writing, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Experience in litigation and involvement in policy issues is highly valued.
  • A demonstrated commitment to public interest advocacy and a passion for environmental protection.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a collaborative team.

The salary for this position is competitive and commensurate with experience, along with a comprehensive benefits package. The Environmental Law & Policy Center is recognized as a qualifying employer for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program.
