The Nurse Practitioner is a key healthcare provider responsible for delivering high-quality nursing care to students at the Student Health Center. This role requires a strong clinical background, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently with on-call physician/counselor backup.
Key Responsibilities- Provide nursing assessment, direct nursing care, and appropriate medical record documentation for all students who present to the Student Health Center.
- Assist the physician/physician assistant as needed during scheduled appointment hours, and follow through on evaluation/treatment orders and medical record documentation.
- Deliver nursing care, assist students with meals, carry out evaluation/treatment orders, and maintain accurate medical records for students cared for in the SHC Infirmary.
- Contribute to maintaining supplies, records, facility, and other necessary functions for the smooth operation of the 24/7 college health service.
- Perform physical tasks such as lifting and moving patients, standing, walking, bending, stooping, and stretching for prolonged periods.
- Utilize vital sensory abilities, including near vision, far vision, perceptual speed, visual color discrimination, depth perception, and hearing sensitivity.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and other healthcare workers.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
The Nurse Practitioner will work a variety of shifts, including day, evening, and night shifts. The ability to work independently after 5 PM is required, with on-call physician/counselor backup and ER backup for true emergencies.
Requirements- Current R.N. licensure for nursing practice in Virginia.
- Current CPR certification.
- Pertinent clinical experience and knowledge of current healthcare practices.
- Dedication to continuing professional education.
- Ability to work independently with on-call physician/counselor backup.
- Professional demeanor, common sense, excellent clinical and interpersonal skills, and a consistent record of attendance and punctuality.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Personal maturity to deal effectively with ill and/or troubled students.
- Maintain confidentiality of personal health information.
- Work effectively as a professional staff member on a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
