Fire Protection Project Engineer

KCI Technologies, Inc. is a 100% employee-owned engineering, consulting and construction firm serving clients throughout the United States. We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Protection Project Engineer to join our team.
ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will perform engineering assessments, life safety and code analysis, calculations, and fire protection system(s) design. They will design fire protection systems for commercial, institutional, industrial, and mission critical facilities. The candidate will work to produce 3-D designs of sprinkler systems, fire alarm systems, and means of egress analysis, working to support architects and engineers in building design.
Requirements- Familiarity with International Code Council (ICC) codes and National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards
- Good written and verbal communication skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
- Preferred experience: knowledge of egress modeling and sprinkler layout software, general knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit, specific past experience with sprinkler and fire alarm design, knowledge of sprinkler hydraulic calculation software, Professional Engineer (PE), B.S. in engineering from an ABET-accredited 4-yr university
- Bachelor's Degree in Engineering; Appropriate graduate level work is preferred
- Minimum of 5 - 9 years of professional experience
- Pre-employment drug screening is a condition of employment. Background and motor vehicle checks may be required based upon position
- Submit for approval and deliver timely annual Employee Performance Appraisals for assigned staff
- Train adequate backup personnel to support your role in your absence
- Comply with all KCI policies and procedures
- Ensure projects fulfill ISO compliance requirements
- Manage work routine of all assigned staff and assign job activities as required
- Complete other duties as required/assigned
- Achieve or exceed budgeted individual utilization target (75%-80% typical)
- Attend bi-weekly (or more frequently as necessary) meetings with project team on all projects/tasks
- Chart and provide task performance results
- Complete all tasks on time and within budget while fully meeting the scope
- Consult and coordinate with other practices and sub-consultants as required
- Operate within specified (corporate or project) budget parameters
- Prepare interpractice agreements and/or outside requests as required
- Provide technical project and staff oversight
- Serve as task manager on select projects
- Compare field data to base plan
- Conduct site visits and gather data, including measurements, sketches, notes and photographs as needed
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications and cost estimates for review and approval
- Prepare preliminary concept designs and submit for approval
- Read and interpret technical documents needed for performance of job
- Review and approve shop drawings
- Complete Annual Individual Training Program
