Job Title: Director of Transportation Planning

Join the Texas Department of Transportation as a Director of Transportation Planning and lead the coordination of district-wide project planning and oversee project development and design. As a key member of the team, you will be responsible for directing the implementation of an action plan for all project planning in the district and participating in the preparation of the Unified Transportation Plan and development of the Transportation Improvement Program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the District Engineer or Deputy District Engineer in formulating and administering policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate district right-of-way acquisition, negotiations, relocations, utility adjustments, appraisals, beautification, legal, accounting, and recordkeeping.
  • Coordinate the preparation of the district Annual Letting Plan, the summary reports of contract letting schedules, and the planning status for all district projects.
  • Direct the implementation of an action plan for all project planning in the district and participate in the preparation of the Unified Transportation Plan and development of the Transportation Improvement Program.
  • May oversee district operations in the absence of the District Engineer.
  • Oversee advance planning programs and all design and plan preparation for the district.
  • Oversee data collection, analyses, forecasts, and plan development.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of Plans, Specifications, and Estimates and ensure final release for contracting of projects.
  • Plan, conduct, and direct the preparation of final reports, including environmental studies for public meetings and hearings for all projects in the district.
  • Prepare and secure execution of agreements and related correspondence necessary to provide for a contract letting for all project planning.
  • Represent the district at state and local levels and advise local officials and the public concerning proposed project development.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related science bachelor's or higher degree accepted by TX PELS.
  • 5 years of transportation engineering, planning, design, ROW acquisition experience. (Experience can be satisfied by full-time or prorated part-time equivalent). Related graduate-level education may be substituted for experience on a year-per-year basis.
  • Must have 3 years of managerial/supervisory experience.
  • Valid driver's license. This position requires driving a state vehicle.
  • Licensed Professional Engineer.
