Job Summary

Progressions is seeking a highly skilled Counselor to join our team at our Malvern Treatment Center facility in South Philadelphia. As a Counselor, you will play a vital role in counseling patients regarding all aspects of their addiction, providing supportive individual counseling, conducting group therapy, and reviewing clients at case conferences with other team members.

Responsibilities
  • Administer assessments, establish and revise individualized treatment goals, and participate in the formulation of diagnostic summaries
  • Document patient progress in a manner that facilitates Utilization Review (UR) and corresponds to goals and objectives in treatment plan
  • Provide pertinent information at case conferences and express disagreement when necessary
  • Complete case conference documentation in a timely manner
  • Address problematic behaviors in patients
  • Conduct group therapy according to stage of group development
  • Get involved in projects that improve delivery of treatment and participate in ongoing educational and training process
  • Keep referral sources updated as to patient progress
  • Maintain family contacts in a timely manner
  • Maintain communication with patient's families and facilitate participation in treatment
  • Keep personal issues separate from therapeutic process and relationships
  • Deliver lectures and workshops in an appropriate manner
  • Interact with co-workers in a helpful manner that contributes to high morale
  • Assume responsibilities for case management, lectures, and group therapy as required and asked
  • Maintain and set up aftercare for all patients in a timely manner in case of AMA
  • Arrive at scheduled activities on time
  • Complete paperwork and documentation on time and in a comprehensive manner
  • Complete discharge summaries in a timely manner
  • Perform evaluations for potential admissions and refer patients to appropriate level of care based on ASAM criteria
  • Involves patients in the treatment planning process
  • Complete treatment plans in a timely manner and ensure they are comprehensive in nature
  • Determine appropriate length of stay for patients based on ASAM criteria
  • Facilitate discharge process in an appropriate manner
  • May give direction and provide feedback on the performance of students
  • Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
  • Master's degree in a related field preferred; will accept Bachelor's or Associate's degree with corresponding experience
  • One to two years of clinical experience in a health or human service agency, preferably in a drug and alcohol setting
  • Knowledge of 12-step recovery and an understanding of chemical dependency
  • Able to provide individual counseling as well as group therapy
  • Able to work in a supportive, caring, and non-judgmental manner with staff and patients in order to gain confidence and cooperation
  • Able to operate as a role model in speech and behaviors consistent with recovery principles
  • Confident, articulate, and able to speak effectively in front of groups and individuals to provide education/training
