Job Summary

Christiana Care Health System is seeking a skilled Perfusion Specialist to join our dynamic Cardiac Surgery practice. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe and efficient operation of cardiopulmonary bypass equipment and providing high-quality patient care.

Responsibilities
  • Review patient medical history and chart to determine the best course of treatment.
  • Assemble and monitor equipment needed for cardiopulmonary bypass and other extra corporeal life support procedures.
  • Monitor patients' blood temperature, composition, and flow rate to ensure optimal perfusion.
  • Implement clinically efficient blood salvaging techniques to minimize blood loss.
  • Monitor blood gas and blood chemistry to ensure accurate patient care.
  • Manage anticoagulation and hematological analysis to prevent complications.
  • Participate in meetings, seminars, and committees to stay up-to-date on the latest perfusion techniques and technologies.
  • Educate and lecture on related perfusion subject material as directed by the Chief Perfusionist.
  • Assist in the development, maintenance, and enforcement of administrative and clinical policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to the overall design and development of the department.
  • Assist in the development of performance improvement ideas to enhance patient care and departmental efficiency.
Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited Perfusion program.
  • Certification by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion or board eligible with certification received within 18 months of hire.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (BLS).
