POSITION SUMMARY
The Clinical Respiratory Therapy Student (CRTS) supports Licensed Respiratory Therapists by delivering fundamental respiratory care services and interventions. Under the direct supervision of a Licensed Respiratory Therapist, the CRTS engages in patient and family care, as well as documentation at a foundational performance level. Responsibilities include performing airway clearance techniques, administering aerosolized medications, and assisting with the management of oxygen therapy.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards, including those set by the Joint Commission and the College of American Pathologists (CAP).
- Administer various accepted methods of respiratory care and diagnostic procedures, contingent upon prior approval for each specific task.
- Participate actively in educational programs and departmental meetings.
- Uphold a positive representation of Western Missouri Medical Center in all professional interactions.
- Collaborate effectively with all medical center personnel to identify and resolve issues.
- Serve as a key liaison among medical staff, patients, and their families.
- Foster and maintain productive relationships within and across departments.
- Work to establish a strong rapport with physicians by demonstrating interest in patient care and showcasing the capabilities of the Respiratory Therapy department.
- Set up and manage medical gas systems as required.
- Assist with departmental administrative tasks as necessary.
- Ensure all equipment is cleaned and stored according to manufacturer guidelines.
- Document relevant patient care information in the electronic medical record (EMR).
- Maintain consistent and reliable attendance.
- Perform additional essential duties as assigned.
EDUCATIONAL AND PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of the first clinical course in an accredited Respiratory Care program.
- Active enrollment and good standing in an accredited Respiratory Care program.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification in accordance with AHA standards.
- Self-motivated with the ability to adhere to established hospital policies and procedures.
