Position Overview:


The Financial Aid Consultant II plays a vital role in the Cherokee Nation College Resource Center, engaging with the public through various communication channels including in-person interactions, telephone conversations, and electronic correspondence.

This position is responsible for coordinating the processes related to the electronic submission of scholarship applications and awards. The consultant reviews and manages scholarship applications and awards in accordance with established policies. Additionally, the role involves assisting in the upkeep of software systems utilized for processing financial aid applications and organizing events aimed at promoting scholarship programs and financial aid awareness. The consultant also guides students and their families in navigating the financial aid application process and assessing eligibility.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Imports scholarship applications from the online scholarship management system.
2. Conducts preliminary reviews of incoming scholarship applications to ensure compliance with program policies, procedures, and deadlines.
3. Confirms that scholarship applications adhere to program guidelines.
4. Generates electronic notifications to applicants regarding their application status.
5. Assesses student eligibility for scholarships and related programs.
6. Updates student records upon receiving relevant notifications.
7. Provides management with insights on policy issues and emerging trends.

8. Offers personalized assistance to students and parents during the Cherokee Nation scholarship application process and other financial aid opportunities.

9. Advises applicants on maintaining scholarship eligibility. 10. Collaborates with financial aid offices at colleges and universities to resolve eligibility concerns. 11. Ensures timely processing of payments within the system, subject to management verification. 12. Contributes to discussions regarding technology improvements, program modifications, and deadline adjustments. 13. Aids in the creation and revision of scholarship newsletters, publications, and forms.

14. Participates in delivering presentations to educational institutions and community groups, as well as at financial aid conferences and workshops, to explain the Cherokee Nation Scholarship programs and available financial aid services.

15. Maintains comprehensive documentation and correspondence in an electronic filing system. 16. Provides support to the reception area. 17. Performs additional duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications:

Educational Background:
A Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution is required; no substitutions will be accepted.

Experience:
A minimum of two (2) years of experience in a related field is required, which may include customer service experience.

Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Contact Management software, Database software, Internet applications, Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software is essential.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:


Candidates must possess a valid driver's license, with a driving history that meets the Cherokee Nation underwriting standards.


Additional Qualifications:
Candidates must successfully pass pre-employment and periodic background checks, particularly for child care positions.

Skills and Abilities:


Strong professional communication skills, familiarity with office technologies (computers, fax machines, scanners, etc.), and the ability to operate in a highly confidential environment are essential. Candidates should be capable of managing frequent interruptions, adapting to changing workloads within established timeframes, and working independently.

During peak application and renewal periods, candidates should be prepared for a high volume of inquiries and may be required to work evenings.
