Overview

Sign-on bonus available up to $30,000.

The Radiation Oncology Physicist collaborates closely with radiation oncologists, the chief medical physicist, and departmental leadership to uphold the highest standards of physics services.

This role encompasses, but is not limited to, overseeing and ensuring quality control of all treatment calculations; consulting with radiation oncologists and other medical specialties regarding radiation therapy planning; supervising and advising physicists and dosimetrists on computer treatment planning and associated dosimetry; assessing the radiation output of all radiation therapy units, along with other responsibilities pertinent to the operation of radiation within the Radiation Oncology departments.

Key Responsibilities

(35%)* Manage all facets of radiation oncology treatment planning and dosimetry, including indirect supervision of physicist associates and medical dosimetrists.
(30%)* Deliver medical physics services in alignment with the highest standards as mandated by regulatory bodies.
(15%)* Undertake the responsibilities of a medical dosimetrist when required.
(10%)* Facilitate the development of students within the department and oversee the completion of radiation therapy student competencies.
(10%)* Oversee the quality assurance program in the radiation oncology departments and manage the commissioning and acceptance of new radiation oncology equipment.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage in process improvement initiatives.
May be requested to rotate to other facilities to address staffing shortages or variations in patient volume.

Possess a comprehensive understanding of appropriate billing practices and utilize site-specific management systems for scheduling and billing.

Assist in formulating policies and procedures related to radiation safety within the radiation oncology department.

Participate in the radiation safety committee, contributing to high-quality care and safety for our community and patients.

Certifications and Licensures

ABR - American Board of Radiology
Required Equivalent Experience - Certification or eligibility for certification by the American Board of Radiology in Radiological Physics or Therapeutic Radiology Physics, or comparable certification by the American College of Medical Physics.

Education

Required Education:
Master’s Degree

Experience, Training, and Skills:
Experience in high dose rate (HDR), prostate seed, Stereotactic Radiosurgery, Gamma Knife, and Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). Eligible for and completes requirements for all modalities within two years of employment.
Demonstrate effective communication skills with others in person and via telephone.

Physical and Mental Requirements:
Exposure to stressful situations, including public contact, trauma, grief, and death.
Able to wear personal protective equipment, including latex materials or appropriate substitutes as required.
Must be able to navigate the facility with or without an assisted device and perform the functions of the job as outlined in the job description.
Overall vision and hearing are necessary with or without assisted devices.
Frequent sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods may be required, along with postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
Some exposure to bloodborne pathogens and other potentially infectious materials. Compliance with bloodborne pathogen and TB testing as required.
Ability to manage multiple tasks, collaborate with others, work independently, maintain regular attendance, and remain alert.
Overall dexterity is necessary, including handling, reaching, grasping, fingering, and feeling, with potential repetition of these movements regularly.

Physical Demand Level:
Light. Must be able to occasionally lift or carry 11-20 lbs., frequently handle 10 lbs., and/or engage in walking, standing, pushing, or pulling arm/leg controls.
