Job Summary

Metalcraft of Mayville, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Welding Department Lead to oversee the daily operations of our Scag Welding area. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for assisting the Department Supervisor in directing the work activities of our welders, ensuring that all parts are made correctly and schedules are met.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Department Supervisor in directing the work activities of the welders
  • Work with both robotic and manual welders to ensure parts are made correctly and schedules are met
  • Keep informed of any changes and new procedures throughout the day to stay on schedule
  • Communicate information, assist in resolving problems, and support continuous improvement initiatives
  • Monitor and maintain all equipment, machines, and supplies within the department
  • Report shortages to the department supervisor and perform necessary preventative maintenance
  • Assist with cost savings, continuous improvements, and more efficient ways to run the weld operations
  • Follow all company rules, policies, and regulations, ensuring compliance with corporate and plant safety standards
  • Maintain company safety, quality, efficiency, and productivity standards
Requirements
  • High school degree, diploma, or a GED equivalent qualification from an accredited institution
  • Understanding of welding fundamentals
  • Basic welding experience and/or training
  • Basic knowledge of Mig Welding Equipment
  • Successful completion of internal weld test
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to effectively communicate with management and peers openly
  • Ability to efficiently assist in leading a team and coordinate work with other departments
  • Aptitude to take orders and execute the same efficiently
  • Knowledge of welding equipment and tools, including their design, uses, repair, and maintenance
  • Ability to read and interpret documents like blueprints, welding symbols, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Basic computer knowledge
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working within a highly technical environment
  • Strong basic math skills
  • Previous experience working within a weld department
  • Previous forklift experience
  • Exposure to a Lean manufacturing environment
  • General understanding of Metric and Standard systems
  • Associates degree in a related technical field
  • Prior lead experience, preferably in a weld department
  • Microsoft Office skills
  • SAP experience
