Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Plumber to join our team at the University of Florida. As a Plumber, you will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and installing plumbing components, including pipes, fittings, valves, appliances, fixtures, and associated hardware.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and install plumbing components, including pipes, fittings, valves, appliances, fixtures, and associated hardware.
  • Remove blockages in building drains using both electric and manual equipment.
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and install drainage systems in compliance with the current Florida Building Code.
  • Maintain, repair, replace, and install domestic water distribution systems, sanitary sewer systems, and storm water systems in compliance with the current edition of the Florida Building Code.
  • Assist with general maintenance repairs and perform preventative maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Perform fixture repair and replacement, stove burner/switch repairs, window/blind repairs, door/lock repair, painting, pressure washing, roof/gutters cleaning, and ceiling tile replacement.
  • Perform general construction tasks, including removing and installing floor and wall tile, repairing grout, removing and replacing doors and hardware, removing and replacing cabinetry, removing and replacing windows, window screens, glass, and window blinds, removing and replacing gypsum-based wall board and finishes, removing and replacing ceiling tile and grid, and removing and installing floor covering and finishes.
  • Operate, maintain, and repair tools, including pipe cutters, reamers, threaders, torches, sewer snakes, chipping/rotary hammers, closet augers, drills, sawzalls, skill saws, and multi-meters.
  • Responsible for general administrative functions, including inputting and processing work order requests using a web-based work order management system, recording detailed descriptions of work performed, and notating preventative maintenance information.
  • Assist in maintaining inventory of materials, supplies, tools, and equipment throughout the area of responsibility, ensuring organized workstations and storage closets with necessary materials as directed.
  • Perform general cleaning duties after the completion of maintenance tasks within buildings or properties.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, including special tasks or projects.
  • Operate state vehicles.
Requirements
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in plumbing, or a high school diploma and four years of appropriate experience, or appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Eight years of experience.
  • Working knowledge of the Florida Plumbing Code.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with computers and basic software applications, including work order management systems, Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated communication skills, including verbal and written communication, and the ability to communicate with various levels of staff.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness.
  • Demonstrated customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to function effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions.
  • Demonstrated ability to handle multiple projects or tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand, interpret, and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a multi-cultural environment.
