Deputy Sheriff

The Berks County Sheriff's Department is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Deputy Sheriff to join our team. As a Deputy Sheriff, you will play a critical role in maintaining law and order in our community, ensuring the safety and well-being of our citizens, and upholding the laws of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the United States of America.

• Serve and Protect: Serve all writs and orders of the Court, perform Levies and hold personal property sales, conduct Sheriff Sales, and maintain courtroom security.
• Law Enforcement: Transport prisoners, serve arrest and bench warrants, serve Protection from Abuse orders, including weapons seizures and exclusions, and control prisoners in the cell block and while under the control of the deputy.
• Investigations: Investigate firearms applications for dealers and License to Carry permits, and enforce court orders.
• Community Service: Serve as a representative of the department at various civic and public functions, and work cooperatively with other law enforcement agencies on related tasks and details.

• Education: High school diploma or G.E.D. certification from a recognized issuing agency.
• Age and Citizenship: Must be at least 21 years of age and a citizen of the United States.
• Driver's License: Must possess a valid Pennsylvania drivers' license and be willing to obtain a Commercial Driver's License as required.
• Background Check: Must successfully complete a rigid security background check and oral interview.
• Training: Must successfully complete Deputy Sheriff's training standards as set forth by the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency, and all Berks County Sheriff's Office training as set forth by the training sergeant.

The Deputy Sheriff will work in a fast-paced environment, often in emergency situations, and must be able to work well under pressure. The position requires the ability to work overtime, when necessary, as well as the ability to work different shifts, including holidays and weekends.
