SUMMARY:
Under direct supervision, the Educational Support Specialist provides essential instructional and educational assistance to designated educators. This role encompasses a variety of tasks aimed at enhancing the learning environment, including preparing educational materials, managing communications, and performing basic data entry. Responsibilities may vary based on the specific instructional area and student needs.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assists in classroom instruction by reinforcing learning concepts, overseeing in-school suspension or detention, taking attendance, and administering make-up assessments. Collaborates with teachers to prepare and distribute materials for educational activities.
- Prepares the classroom for special events and activities, including organizing resources and setting up visual aids.
- Demonstrates the ability to provide remedial support or interventions to reinforce learning initiated by the educator.
- Engages with students requiring individual attention, reading to them, listening to their feedback, and suggesting improvements.
- Effectively supervises groups of students engaged in various activities such as drawing, writing, or independent study.
- Observes and assists individual students facing challenges in their learning process.
- Distributes and collects educational materials, prepares the classroom for instructional projects, and operates audio-visual equipment as necessary.
- Supervises students during recreational activities, monitors behavior in the cafeteria, and ensures safety during transitions between classes.
- Performs clerical tasks such as preparing instructional materials, maintaining student records, and distributing textbooks.
- Assists in organizing field trips, including managing permission slips and transportation arrangements, and accompanies students on these excursions as needed.
- Provides clerical support through tasks such as light typing, data entry, sorting, and filing.
- Handles various records and forms, ensuring accurate completion and filing.
- Assists in collecting funds for school-related activities and prepares receipts for transactions.
- Undertakes miscellaneous tasks such as distributing materials, scheduling appointments, ordering supplies, and escorting students as required.
- Operates standard office equipment including computers, copiers, and calculators.
- Performs additional duties as assigned by the Principal.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
High School Diploma; must meet the highly qualified standards as defined by applicable regulations. An Associate's Degree is preferred, or completion of 60 college credit hours from an accredited institution, or a passing score on the ParaPro Exam. A solid understanding of child development and learning processes is essential, along with any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to perform duties with awareness of district policies and regulations. Proficient in using personal computers and relevant software. Capable of working independently and developing positive relationships with students and staff. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical demands of this position require the ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 25 pounds. The role involves frequent interaction with students and staff, requiring mobility and the ability to engage in various physical activities.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The work environment is primarily within a classroom setting, with some exposure to outdoor conditions during student supervision.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
181 Days, 7.5 Hours
EVALUATION:
Performance will be evaluated annually according to district policies.
