Manager of SEC Financial Reporting

The SEC Financial Reporting Manager plays a crucial role within the organization, directly engaging with the CFO, CAO/Worldwide Controller, and Senior Management. This position entails the preparation and submission of SEC filings, alongside conducting technical accounting research and managing special projects. The role requires in-office presence for four days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the preparation, review, and submission of Forms 10-Q/K, with significant involvement in 8-K and Proxy statement filings.
2. Prepare financial statements and related financial data for press releases, audit committee communications, and supplementary investor information.
3. Stay updated on current and emerging financial accounting and reporting standards, evaluating their relevance to MicroStrategy and advising the Controllership accordingly.
4. Analyze and document new and complex technical accounting issues as they emerge.
5. Support accounting and reporting functions related to share-based compensation, earnings per share, segment reporting, debt and equity transactions, crypto assets, non-GAAP reporting, lease accounting, and ESG matters.
6. Collaborate proactively with external auditors and advisors on key accounting and reporting challenges.
7. Coordinate with various internal departments (Accounting, HR, Legal, FP&A, Marketing, IT) and external parties (auditors, consultants/advisors) to facilitate SEC filings and address technical accounting matters.
8. Exhibit strong project management capabilities and accountability to meet deadlines.
9. Ensure adherence to established internal controls within areas of responsibility.
10. Identify opportunities for automation, workflow improvements, and efficiency enhancements across all functions.
Qualifications:
- Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience in a Financial Reporting capacity for a public company.
- Preferred prior experience with a Big 4 accounting firm. Active CPA license is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting is mandatory.
- Proficiency in MS Office is essential, with advanced Excel skills being a must.
- Familiarity with U.S. GAAP and technical accounting research tools is required.
- Knowledge of SEC regulations and requirements is necessary.
- Experience with XBRL tagging and SEC filing software is advantageous.
- Strong technical accounting writing and research abilities are essential.
- Capability to work effectively both in team settings and independently as needed.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Strong communication skills are required to interact with all organizational levels.
- Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills.
- High integrity and the ability to handle confidential information appropriately at all times.
