Position Overview

The Lead Mainframe Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting ongoing initiatives that involve the installation, testing, and deployment of new operating systems and related system software.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting of systems software.
  • Collaboration with various technical teams (CICS, Database, Network, Hardware/Storage, etc.) to achieve project objectives.
  • Research and assessment of new software and hardware solutions.
  • Providing assistance to team members and other departments with technical inquiries and issue resolution.
  • Monitoring and optimizing systems software performance.
  • Comprehensive understanding of z/OS components and in-depth knowledge of supporting products such as tape management, scheduling, security, and monitoring systems.

Important Note:
This position is not focused on Applications Programming.

Reporting Structure:
This role reports to the Manager of Mainframe Systems Programming.

Core Focus Areas:
  • Installation and upkeep of Mainframe Systems Infrastructure software (including z/OS and/or ISV products) to support Software Lifecycle Management.
  • Incident and problem resolution.

Ideal Candidate Profile:

To be considered for this opportunity, candidates must meet the following qualifications:
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience leading a team in a mainframe environment within a large organization or a comparable combination of education and experience.
  • A Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Technical expertise across multiple Mainframe teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) for creating client-facing documents.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service abilities at a management level.
  • Effective collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Strong communication skills to interact with cross-functional teams and guide junior team members.

Additional Qualifications:
  • Ability to execute the responsibilities of a Mainframe System Programmer.
  • Capability to conduct complex ISV installations.
  • Experience in leading intricate projects.
  • Mentorship and leadership qualities.
