About the Role

Westlake Services is seeking a highly skilled Health, Safety, and Environmental Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Plant Management team, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our employees, as well as protecting the environment and company assets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the Plant Management team in setting and implementing safety protocols to prevent injuries, incidents, and environmental hazards.
  • Provide training, coaching, and technical support to facilities to ensure compliance with OSHA and environmental regulations.
  • Assist with environmental compliance and develop recommendations for improvement of procedures and practices.
  • Conduct hazard assessments and site audits, and develop solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Take on projects to achieve department and business unit goals, and support plants in conducting root cause analysis investigations.
  • Consult with plant management to facilitate and support individual plant needs, and develop the safety culture.
  • Review proposed changes in processes or equipment to ensure compliance with safety and health standards.
  • Initiate activities to stimulate and maintain employee interest in the plant's Health and Safety programs.
  • Coordinate industrial hygiene monitoring activities, and attend seminars and meetings to stay up-to-date on safety policies and best practices.
  • Serve as a resource in managing Workers' Compensation claims, and assist in the development of employee safety orientation and training.
  • Liaison with plant and governmental officials during inspections and resolution of potential issues.
  • Assist in training personnel to elevate the safety culture and knowledge of the organization on conformance to policies and procedures.
  • Analyze incident data and provide feedback and direction to sites to help them focus on key areas for improvement.
Requirements
  • BS Degree in Business, Environmental, or Safety Management, or a related field.
  • 3-5 years of experience in health and safety with multi-site responsibility.
  • Knowledgeable in Federal, State, fire safety, ANSI standards, and general Workers' Compensation laws.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to write reports and present information to groups.
  • Ability to develop training and train employees on safety-related subjects.
  • Excellent computer skills with knowledge in Microsoft Office.
Work Environment

The noise level in the work environment is sometimes moderate, and some work may be required in operating units that mandate the use of required PPE. Moderate travel (20-40%) may be required in the performance of duties.
