Job Summary:

Holland America Group is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Beverage Operations Manager to lead our global beverage operations. Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership and Management: Direct and manage the activities of beverage service personnel, including assistant beverage managers, cellar masters, head bartenders, bartenders, beverage attendants, and GPA bars and wine attendants.
  • Operational Excellence: Ensure the implementation and execution of corporate policies and procedures within the beverage department, controlling and measuring bar sales outlet performance on a daily basis, and taking corrective action to ensure operations meet company standards and objectives.
  • Revenue Growth: Achieve or exceed bar revenue and cost objectives for established cruise program targets, creating new opportunities and maximizing existing ones to generate extra revenue, and managing beverage outlets as separate profit centers.
  • Merchandising and Promotions: Develop and recommend merchandising and promotional programs to maximize bar revenue and service objectives, identifying market needs and trends, and creating concepts for approval by the corporate office.
  • Inventory and Audit: Implement inventory and audit procedures for beverage facilities consistent with operational policies and directives, ensuring beverage inventories in storerooms and bars are at the par level determined by the company.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and development opportunities for beverage team members, coaching and mentoring direct reports and subordinates, and identifying team members for promotion using current training guidelines.
  • Guest Quality and Safety: Ensure guest quality standards and ratings for beverage services meet or exceed company goals, personally getting involved with handling guest concerns, and personally liaising with group leaders, media, travel writers, site inspections, VIPs, and guests in general.
  • Facilities and Maintenance: Ensure beverage facilities are maintained at company standards and meet or exceed USPH requirements, inspecting lounges and bars in respect to physical condition, equipment condition, and presentation, and ensuring prompt repair and maintenance through proper use of job orders.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Foster regular and structured communications within the beverage operations team, maintaining a visible presence throughout the department at all times, and encouraging meaningful and strong guest interaction by you and the restaurant operations team.
  • Financial Management: Demonstrate strong financial responsibility, working together with relevant department heads for day-to-day oversight, as well as voyage/monthly/YTD overview, with an expectation to meet and/or exceed targets.

Requirements:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in hospitality management (preferred) or related field from an accredited college or university or the international equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 3 years' experience in managing a food and beverage service operation is required (four-star and above: hotel resort, restaurant); or two years of experience in managing a food and beverage service operation on a cruise ship is required.
  • Skills and Qualifications: Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, excellent computer software skills required (Word; Excel; Outlook etc.), ability to speak and write English fluently, proficiency in at least one of the following languages would be an advantage - Dutch, Spanish, or German, ability to lead with a perspective in a culturally diverse and dynamic environment, knowledge of the principles and processes involved in organizational planning, coordination, and execution, and knowledge of the principles and processes for providing personalized services.
