Job Summary

The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Assistant Park Manager to join our team at Westmoreland State Park. As a key member of our park management team, you will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the park, ensuring that all staff adhere to park, division, and agency policies, and coordinating human resources functions, including recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and managing employee performance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and track expenses, procure materials and services, and assist with the development of the annual park budget.
  • Supervise and inspect cyclical facilities/grounds/equipment maintenance tasks to ensure compliance with OSHA, VDH, and agency standards.
  • Provide assistance with managing and maintaining cultural and natural resources of the park and supervising volunteer programs.
  • Assist with fixed assets accounting, inventory, and small value assets tracking, and monitor revenue collection and procurement/purchasing procedures for assigned staff.
Requirements
  • Experience and knowledge of grounds/facility maintenance practices.
  • Experience and knowledge of personnel management/supervision and providing staff training.
  • Demonstrated experience with revenue collection/reporting and financial/budget tracking.
  • Possess effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Working knowledge of resource management techniques, procedures, and guidelines.
Additional Considerations
  • Current Virginia DCJS law enforcement officer certification.
  • Possess a pesticide license.
  • Working knowledge of major trades and constructions techniques.
  • Previous experience managing/tracking sales, performing procurement transactions, and coordinating inventory tracking and loss prevention management.
  • Considerable knowledge of natural and cultural resource issues and processes and regulatory requirements with the ability to accommodate them into facility management.

This position requires the incumbent to become a Sworn Conservation Officer, which includes accepting responsibilities related to being equipped with and using firearms. Successful applicants must not have a felony conviction(s) or have pled no contest to a felony or any offense that would be a felony if committed in VA.

This position will be required to live in park housing, and the incumbent must enter into a lease agreement and demonstrate possession of liability and personal property insurance.

The incumbent must be able to work in diverse conditions, including exposure to the outdoors, weather in all seasons, dust, animals, and insects, and perform heavy manual labor, including standing, bending, pulling, climbing, and frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.

The incumbent must also be able to obtain CPR and First Aid certifications within 12 months of employment.
