Lead Academic Advisor, TRiO Talent Search Program

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Academic Advisor to join our TRiO Talent Search Program team at Prairie State College. The successful candidate will provide academic advising and support services to students in grades 6-12, with a focus on first-generation college-bound students.
Key Responsibilities- Provide academic advising and counseling services to students, including assistance with course selection, college admissions, and financial aid applications.
- Conduct outreach and recruitment activities in targeted middle and high schools to identify and engage eligible participants.
- Develop and implement individual academic plans (IAPs) and academic improvement plans (AIPs) to support students' academic success.
- Collaborate with the Program Director and other team members to ensure the effective implementation of program activities and services.
- Assist with the coordination of programming, including workshops, college tours, and cultural activities.
- Provide financial aid and personal finance counseling to support students' educational and personal goals.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and school officials to ensure effective program delivery.
- Bachelor's degree in education, counseling, or a related field.
- Minimum of two years of experience advising, counseling, or working with economically and educationally disadvantaged persons.
- FAFSA knowledge and experience in financial aid and financial literacy.
- Working knowledge of Title IV-Federal Financial Aid.
- Proven commitment to serving first-generation college-bound students.
- Experience working with TRIO Programs.
- Experience working in a community college setting.
- Working knowledge of Datatel Colleague and Blumen software.
